1860s House in West Dundee

It looked like they were doing some restoration work to this house. The sign said the original town school was on this site in the 1840s and 50s. If I remember correctly, this house dates from the 1860s.

I strongly recommend a visit to West Dundee, which is a perfectly preserved 19th century town along the Fox River and IL Route 72 (Higgins Road). The town's borders along the river and Route 31 stopped development so you will find many commercial structures and houses that date from the 1840s through the early 1900s. It is nice to walk past the residences, because most of them have plaques and dates so you can learn about their histories.
