The moment of truth. The fact that the flash is only held by a 1.7mm screw between the spring and the shoe does not inspire much confidence. Otherwise a great "needtohave" gadget.

Aluminum just does not cut it as a spring.

I got this cute doohickey from the photostore when it refused to attach to the body. It seems the spring had broken and someone tried to "fix"it.

After a few minutes careful, terrified, gluing I was left with this. Sure it's not perfect but I wasn't aiming that high. It's restored the structural integrity of the palm rest and so I'm happy.

Note to Apple: How about considering the durability of your future Macbooks!? I didn't do anything unusual to mine yet within 2 years it's gone and split on me and from what I hear I'm not alone.

UPDATE: This was a temporary fix and the same issue began to appear on the opposite side. Thanks to the comments left on these photos I decided to follow up with Apple regarding a replacement part. At present the Macbook is at the Apple Store being repaired FOC.

I've had my Macbook for a year and a half now and it's been a wonderful companion, sure the white finish gets dirty easily and it's prone to scratching but overall it's been superb.

About a month ago I noticed that there was a small hairline crack developing on the leading edge of the right hand side of the top cover bezel. Over the last few weeks this crack has grown and I've been planning to stage a careful repair until finally today, with a little help from Sophia, the crack became a full-blown broken piece of plastic. If I didn't act quickly my Macbook would have a foul looking hole in it.

With the aid of a little super glue... here's what I was able to achieve.

UPDATE: Apple are replacing my top cover free of charge.

UPDATE UPDATE: Got the Macbook back, nice new top cover. Still doesn't fit perfectly but I think that's a Macbook trademark... All in all £111 worth of work done free of charge! Nice one Apple!

The Loctite Super Glue Gel stands ready to be deployed. This Gel Control is supposed to help avoid those annoying super glue disasters where the glue goes everywhere but the place you wanted it.

I certainly didn't want that happening to my Macbook!

Repairing a Canon 870IS. The lens unit on this was broken (you can see it dismantled in some pictures). So I got a new one and repaired it. It works like new!
